MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) - Russian drug police seized over 90 kilograms of Afghan heroin in the Moscow region during a series of operations earlier this month, head of the force, Viktor Ivanov told reporters on Friday.

On January 15, in the early hours, drug police detained two suspects with six kilograms of heroin on a highway near Moscow.

Later on, the anti-drug service raided other locations, bringing the total amount of heroin seized to somenine million single doses, worth $2.7 million.

The operation had been planned for several months and was launched in Afghanistan.
