ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A man wanted for shooting an off-duty police officer Wednesday night is in police custody.

St. Louis police say the 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 4900 block of Rosalie.

The off-duty officer, a 32-year-old 11-year veteran of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, was shot in the right shin at his sister's house after she asked two men to leave.

He returned fire at the suspect, who ran from the area.

The officer received treatment at an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect's name will be released if charges are filed.
