Mascoutah, Ill. (KSDK) - What started as a check the well being of a Mascoutah man by concerned family has now turned into a police investigation into the death of the victim and what if any role another man found inside the home has to the death.

Authorities first went to the residence on East Church Street around 8:30 p.m. Monday after a relative of the man living there told officers they had not seen the man for days and were unable to make contact since Thanksgiving.

Police went to the home and found the resident's truck in the driveway, but could get no answer at the door. Further investigation led investigators back to the home around 10:30 p.m.

Officers entered the house and discovered 59-year-old Richard Feldt already dead on the front room floor.

A second 23-year-old man inside the home was found on a sofa uninjured. The unidentified man was reported to be a homeless man who had begun living with Feldt in his home. He was taken into police custody without incident and is being questioned.

Detectives say the victim appeared to have been dead for more than a day, although no specific cause of death was cited.

More information is expected later today as the investigation moves forward.
