COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – The St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office has filed charges against a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend.

Montrell D. Cooper, 25, is charged with one count of first-degree murder. He was arrested Tuesday night in Alorton, Ill. after turning himself in.

Cooper is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend, 25-year-old Michelle Rowling. She was found inside her apartment on North 6th Street in East St. Louis just before 9 p.m. Saturday.

Rowling posted a Facebook status warning she may die the same day Cooper was released from jail. He had been incarcerated for allegedly assaulting her in August.

"If anything happens to me tonight, just let my kids know I loved them dearly and tell my momma I love her," she wrote on November 25.

Rowling is also held for a violating a probation order mandating he not have contact with Rowling.

Bail is set for Cooper at $2 million. He is currently held at the St. Clair County Jail.
