Police searching for gunman invloved in South St. Louis City Homicide. Tracy Clemons
South St. Louis City, MO (KSDK) - 29-year old Ryan Faulstich was shot and killed inside his home Friday in the 3700 block of Upton Street.
Police were called to his home late Friday evening where they found him inside. He'd been shot in the head and the stomach.
"He was a really nice guy," says Tony Mendoza. "I'd known him ever since he'd been here. He's always been very personable. I got along with him real well. I never had any problems with him."
A friend got to the house and found the front door open and called police when he saw Faulstich.
Tony Mendoza lives a few doors down and says it was surreal to see police and EMTs outside his door.
"Obviously pretty freaked out because when it's two doors down from your house you don't know what's going on. At first when I saw the pumper roll up I thought it was a fire or maybe a medical emergency."
But it was a murder. Faulstich was pronounced dead at the scene. One woman says her friend lives next door and heard what sounded like someone trying to get into Faulstichs' side door early Friday evening.
Tony Mendoza says a murder in this neighborhood is shocking.
"I grew up in this neighborhood. I have been here since 1967. Aside from petty crime every once in a while, maybe a bike getting stolen or something like that or whatever you hear from somebody, never nothing like this. I don't know of any homicides that have ever been around here."
We asked Mendoza if he's concerned that this will start a trend - "I think this is an isolated thing. I don't think there's any evidence of that."
At this point, no word from police on suspects or arrests.
