EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A St. Louis man who brought heroin back to the region on Amtrak has been ordered to spend eight years in prison.
A judge in East St. Louis also sentenced 28-year-old Royce Spann on Monday to five years of post-prison supervised release.
Spann pleaded guilty in August to possessing heroin with plans to distribute it.
Prosecutors say Spann rode an Amtrak train in March from Chicago back to St. Louis, where he was confronted by federal agents.
Authorities say Spann ran off, leaving behind a bag that contained $10,000 cash and more than three-quarters of a kilogram of heroin.
