LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. – A Lincoln County man has been sentenced for killing his wife.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Faria was found with than 55 stab wounds inside her home in the 100 block of Sumac Drive Dec. 27, 2011. The Major Case Squad was activated, and Betsy's husband, Russell Scott Faria, was arrested the following day.

A jury found Russell Faria guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action last month. On Monday he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for first-degree murder, and a 30-year prison sentence to run consecutively.

Betsy was battling cancer at the time of her death and had a life insurance policy worth $400,000.

An attorney representing Russell Faria says he plans to appeal the conviction.
