ST. LOUIS – The niece of St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay was carjacked at gunpoint early Dec. 14 in south St. Louis.

The 24-year-old woman's father, Gerald Slay, is Mayor Slay's brother, and confirms she and her boyfriend had just returned to her home near Loughborough and Interstate 55 Friday night when someone knocked on the window of the car they were in with a gun.

Gerald Slay says the suspect had three accomplices, one of which was also armed. They took the vehicle and drove three blocks before a built-in anti-theft device kicked in and disabled the vehicle. They then left the scene in another car.

According to Gerald Slay, police were able to track the suspects, who were in possession of a stolen cell phone and other electronic devices. Slay's niece identified them through a photo line-up.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Police believe the suspects may have been responsible for at least two other crimes around the same time. Charges have been filed against three men for one of those incidents.

Twenty-year-old Corey T. Grimes, 22-year-old Terrell Simmons, and 18-year-old Carl Lamont Griffin are each charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.

Grimes, Simmons, and Griffin are accused of robbing a 31-year-old man and a 26-year-old female at gunpoint in the 5600 block of Virginia at 1:50 a.m. Dec. 14. Cell phones and a pack of cigarettes were taken from the victims.
