MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – Three 17-year-old Collinsville residents were charged Thursday for armed robberies in the Metro East earlier this month.
Devonte P. Marshall is charged with two counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery, and one count of aggravated battery; Maurice S. Morris is charged with one count of attempted armed robbery and one count of aggravated battery; and Garrett A. Babb is charged with one count of armed robbery.
Victims during the first two robberies were attacked with a baseball bat when answering an ad about a television for sale. The first victim escaped before money was taken. The second victim was robbed of cash.
The third victim agreed to meet a person claiming to have a television for sale in front of the apartment complex in the 200 block of Sandridge Drive Dec. 22. He got out of his vehicle, and approached the man he believed to be selling the television.
The suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money. The victim surrendered cash and left the area. He was not injured.
Police say there is no connection between the suspect and the apartment building.
Morris and Babb are each held on $500,000. Marshall's bond is set at $575,000.
A fourth person was also taken into custody and is held at the Collinsville Police Department. That person's name will be released if charges are filed.
