ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) – A 45-year-old East St. Louis man, who is also a registered sex offender, faces a number of felony charges stemming from a burglary and forgery investigation, according to St. Clair County Sheriff's Department.

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly charged Derek McCaster, 45, with burglary, forgery and failure to report as a sex offender.

Deputies responded to a home burglary in the 1000 block of Old Vincennes Trail in unincorporated O'Fallon, Ill. this past October.

A woman reported that she saw a man who used to work for her husband inside of their home and asked to leave, according to police documents. After leaving, the victim discovered that a number of personal checks were gone and had been filled out in a woman's name and cashed.

The burglary investigation identified McCaster as a suspect, who also had a warrant in Cleveland, Ohio for sex offender registry violation. McCaster had also failed to register with Alorton Police Department.

He is currently being held in St. Clair County Jail on $75,000 bond.
