ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) – A Washington Park, Ill. man has been charged and sentenced for a hit-and-run accident last summer in unincorporated Cahokia area.

Kevin Powell received five years in jail and five years probation following his prison release for a car accident that killed 9-year-old Fabian Teson, according to St. Clair County Sheriff Richard Watson.

The accident happened this past July when Fabian was struck by a car while riding his bike in the 2400 block of Lorraine Drive. After being transported to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in critical condition, Fabian died two days later in the hospital.

Within a week of investigation, police located the car and was able to track down the passenger and car's driver, Powell.

St. Clair County State Attorney Brendan Kelly charged Powell a number of violations, including reckless homicide, obstruction of justice, driving without a license, failing to slow speed and driving an uninsured car.
