ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) – A 24-year-old homeless man faces charges for stealing from a relative who allowed them to stay with him, according to St. Clair Sheriff Richard Watson.

State's Attorney Brendan Kelly charged Ronald Pauly, of Belleville, Ill., with a felony charge of theft subsequent.

According to Sheriff Watson, a deputy responded to a theft report in the 2100 block of South 11th Street in unincorporated Belleville, Ill on Jan. 9. The victim said that he allowed a homeless family member to stay with him and found several items missing from his residence.

After being confronted, Pauly fled the scene, according to Watson. A few days later, a deputy found Pauly at the Town House Hotel and was arrested.

It was also discovered that Pauly has a prior conviction of theft-subsequent.

He is currently being held in St. Clair County Jail on $100,000 bond.
