ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – A Florissant tax preparer faces fraud charges for filing false returns and stealing identities of taxpayers, according to the U.S. Attorney's office of Eastern District of Missouri.
The attorney's office charged Ronald Shoniwa, 36, with one count of theft of government funds and two counts of aggravated identity theft.
According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Shoniwa filed 15 tax returns that produced more than $50,000 in improperly paid refunds. He is also accused of stealing a number of names and social security numbers from unsuspecting citizens and filed unauthorized fraudulent returns in their names.
He faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000 and possible restitution to the IRS for improperly paid tax refunds.
