CREVE COEUR, Mo. (KSDK) – The treasurer of an elementary school parent-teacher organization faces charges for embezzling more than $50,000, according to Creve Coeur police.

Tenille Batsell, 36, has been charged with a felony for stealing more than $25,000 from the Spoede School Association at Spoede Elementary School.

Between November 2012 and November 2013, Batsell wrote a number of the organization's checks out to cash from three different accounts, according to police documents. Association officers noticed financial discrepancies in bank statements, which triggered a subsequent investigation.

Batsell said she used the money to pay bills or for personal gain, according to police documents.

She had written a small amount of checks for legitimate expenses, according to police, but the way she wrote them didn't comply with the organization's bylaws.
