ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Police have identified the human remains found Monday near railroad tracks just north of downtown, according to St. Louis police department spokesperson Schron Jackson.
A person out walking their dog found the remains of 22-year-old Joseph Hartsoe in the 3000 block of Wharf, according to Jackson. Hartsoe was reported missing by Collinsville, Ill. police in December 2013, and the case has been listed as a homicide.
An animal or animals might have scavenged the body in evidence found at the scene, according to police documents.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
Homicide detectives were called to the Near North Riverfront neighborhood Monday morning after human remains were discovered near the railroad tracks.
