CARBONDALE, Ill. – A missing Southern Illinois University-Carbondale student has been found dead.
Police found the body of Pravin Varughese in the 1400 block of East Main Street in Carbondale Tuesday around 9:45 a.m. Varughese was reported missing six days ago, and family and friends had offered a $15,000 reward to help bring him home.
The Chicago-area native had last been seen late Wednesday night when he went to a party at a house near campus with two roommates. The roommates left early and Varughese never came home.
Carbondale police say Varughese accepted a ride from an acquaintance on the night he disappeared, but left the car and fled into a wooded area after a dispute.
No foul play is suspected, though a cause of death has not yet been determined. Police say the low temperatures and difficult terrain of the wooded area may have made it difficult for Vargughese to get out of the area.
An autopsy is pending.
