ST. LOUIS COUNTY - A Normandy police officer is recovering after being stabbed in the face with a steak knife earlier this week.

According to Normandy Police Chief Frank Mininni, officers were called to the 1200 block of Willingham Court in north St. Louis County Tuesday night on a domestic disturbance call involving a mother and daughter.

Investigators said Tinisha Washington was arguing with her mother, and locked herself in a bedroom. As officers approached her bedroom, Washington cracked the door, stabbing the officer just one centimeter from his eye.

Washington jabbed the officer in the face so hard, she bent the knife, Mininni said. She was then subdued and arrested.

The officer was rushed to a hospital and received five stitches. He is expected to make a full recovery and will return to work next week.

Meanwhile, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Tinisha Washington with first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest. She's been jailed on a $150,000 bond.
