WOODSON TERRACE, Mo. (KSDK) – A car crash along Interstate 70 at Woodson and Natural Bridge in St. Louis County left one man dead and a police officer hit by a gunshot.

An unidentified police officer noticed a car traveling at a high rate of speed on Woodson around 2:30 a.m., according to St. Louis County police spokesman Brian Schellman. When the officer attempted to stop the car, the officer found the car had crashed on Woodson.

Officers found another female passenger in the car and were able to rescue her, Schellman said. She has been taken to the hospital for treatment. No word on the extent of her injuries or condition.

Another woman was taken into police custody.

Woodson and Natural Bridge reopened around 8:15 a.m.

The officer and the man who died at the scene have not yet been identified.
