O'FALLON, Mo. - A 21-year-old Raytown, Missouri man who was threatening to harm himself was shot and killed over the weekend by deputies with the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department.

According to Lt. David Tiefenbrunn, a spokesman for the sheriff's department, the incident happened Saturday, March 1 at a home in the 2000 block of Old Highway 79.

Authorities were told a man was intoxicated in the home, armed with a handgun, and threatening to kill himself.

Deputies were positioned in the hallway of the residence when the man, identified as Anthony Kovac, walked out of a rear bedroom and pointed the handgun at a deputy. Fearing for his life, that deputy opened fire and struck Kovac.
