MACOUPIN COUNTY, Ill. – A Gillespie, Ill. man is accused of shooting two family dogs in the head.

Joseph Walker, 54, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, illegal possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition.

Sheriff Don Albrecht with the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office, says Walker shot the Bloodhound and Walker Coonhound Monday with a 9mm Beretta semi-automatic pistol. He was taken into custody Monday night.

Walker's bond was set at $40,000. He was released Wednesday morning after posting 10 percent.

Sheriff Albrecht declined to comment on a motive because the investigation is still in its early stages.
