GRANITE CITY, Ill. – A Granite City, Ill. junior high was locked down Thursday afternoon after a mental health facility received a threat.
Major Jeff Connor with the Granite City Police Department, says a specific threat against Coolidge Middle School was made at 3:24 p.m.
Officers met with school officials, and the school was placed on lockdown, and a search got underway looking for the suspect who made the call.
When it was determined the suspect was not in the area of the school, the lockdown was lifted and students were allowed to go home.
At 4:28 p.m. the suspect, identified only as a 55-year-old man, was located inside El Gato Tavern at 18th and Delmar in Granite City. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Granite City Police Department. Police say he was not in possession of any weapons at the time of his arrest.
The suspect's name will be released if charges are filed.
