GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KSDK) – A man accused of making threats against Coolidge Middle School Thursday afternoon faces felony charges.

Madison County States Attorney charged Robert D. Smith, 55, with making a false threat against the school.

Thursday afternoon, administrators placed Coolidge on lockdown when a threat was made against the school through a mental health service. The lockdown was lifted when it was determined the person making the threat was not in the area.

Granite City police later arrested Smith inside El Gato Tavern at 18th and Delmar in Granite City.

He is being transferred to Madison County jail where his bail has been set at $500,000.
