CASEYVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - The St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office charged a Caseyville, Illinois man for allegedly beating his pregnant girlfriend and threatening to kill her and their unborn child.

According to Detective Gerard Spratt, spokesman for the Caseyville Police Department, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 600 block of Hill Road around 9:05 a.m. on Thursday, March 13.

Police arrested Steven McAntire without incident. His girlfriend suffered minor injuries and did not need medical attention.

The victim told officers McAntire grabbed a butcher's knife and threatened to kill her and cut the baby out, killing it as well.

McAntire was charged Friday with aggravated battery and remains jailed on $40,000 bond.
