ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – An accused serial rapist has been arrested and charged for a number of incidents for the past eight years, according to St. Louis County Police.

According to police, 29-year-old Adam Capriglione has raped, sodomized and tortured multiple women dating back to 2006.

According to court documents, Capriglione tortured and abused a number of women, with whom he had a social or romantic relationships, as well as a minor.

In one of the incidents, he is accused of choking a woman to the point of unconsciousness, burning and cutting her with scissors and beating her with a rubber mallet, according to police records. Further, the records show she suffered burns on her cervix.

Capriglione also faces a separate felony charge for endangering a child due to unsanitary living conditions and a knife being housed in a cereal box, according to court documents.

One of the victims stepped forward and reported the torture and abuse to St. Louis County police this past January, according to police.

Police have investigated Capriglione since that time.

The accused is behind bars being held on a half a million dollar bail. His neighbors are thankful for that.

"I would never have thought it, if I did I would have I have two daughters of my own, I would have called the police," said Jerry Watkins who lived right under Capriglione, until police arrested him in January.

Watkins says he never heard anything above him except the sound of a child.

"The things that are being said, you would have thought you would have heard something," he said.

Watkins didn't know Capriglione personally but talked to him and calls him a good dad to his 4-year-old son.

"He was very protective over his son, I mean he wouldn't let his son fall down without being behind him," he says.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch says Capriglione met the most recent victim online, who was able to get away from him and to a hospital. That's when police started investigating and found the other four victims. some escaped. others he just let go.

"There was a certain amount of psychological hold over them," said McCulloch, who fears there may be more victims.

"I have no idea how many others there are or may be," he said.

Capriglione's attorney has released the following statement:

The police are not bound by the rules of professional conduct that restrict attorneys regarding the
information we are allowed to disseminate to the public. Bound by that restriction, my comment
is that Adam Capriglione is a young man of 29 years facing felony charges for the first time in
his life. One of the alleged victims is the mother of Adam's child with whom he has been in
heated custody battles. Other alleged victims are former girlfriends. In order to ensure a fair
trial, this case will be dealt with in the courts and not in the media. I encourage people to not
rush to judgment. As the case proceeds forward, facts will come to light that will dampen the
sensationalism.
