ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - Jury selection begins Monday in a high-profile case of child molestation at a Clayton hotel.

Forty-five-year-old Daniel Hughes of Pennsylvania is charged with child molestation and sodomy for the incident in March of 2011 at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton.

Prosecutors say Hughes, a registered guest at the hotel, asked a clerk at the front desk for a key to the wrong room because he had misplaced his key. Hughes allegedly forced his way in the way after discovering the door was chain-locked from the inside.

Once inside the room, Hughes is accused of climbing into bed with a nine-year-old girl and fondling her.

Hughes, whom police said was highly intoxicated at the time, claims he mistook the child for a female acquaintance.
