FORISTELL, Mo. – A Wentzville man is accused of letting his 13-year-old son take the interstate to drive home because he was too drunk.

Foristell police say an officer on eastbound Interstate 70 saw a silver 2009 GMC Sierra pickup truck drifting to the right and strike the rumble strip around 7:50 p.m. Saturday. The officer watched the truck continue to sway as it approached the Foristell overpass.

Cpl. John Beekman says the officer pulled the vehicle over and realized the driver was a 13-year-old boy. The officer said he could smell alcohol coming from the passenger of the vehicle, identified as 46-year-old David Mooneyham.

Mooneyham is accused of allowing his child to drive the truck home because he was intoxicated. A preliminary breath sample given at the scene showed he had a BAC of 0.139%.

Police say Mooneyham and his son were coming home from the Bridgeton Athletic Complex, and the boy missed their exit, so he turned around in Wright City Authorities estimate the boy drove close to 45 miles before he was pulled over.

Police took Mooneyham into custody. He is charged with child endangerment and permitting an unlicensed person to drive. He bonded out of jail a short time later.

Mooneyham will appear in court in June.
