EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - A 36-year-old Bethalto man already facing charges of sexual assault against children was charged Friday with 14 new charges involving seven additional victims, the Madison County State's Attorney's Office said.
According to court documents, Jason Ehlers was charged earlier this month with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of criminal sexual assault. Those incidents involved a child under the age of 13 and occurred from September 1, 2010 through March 1, 2011, and on a child under the age of 18 from July 1, 2011 through July 1, 2012.
The new incidents do not have a timetable attached, and the victims' ages were not provided to maintain privacy.
Ehlers taught in Triad Community Unit School District #2. He previously taught in Bethalto Community Unit School District #8 and was an administrator at Southwestern Community Unit School District #9.
Prosecutors have not said if any of the victims were students of Ehlers, but would confirm they all knew him prior to the abuse.
Jason Ehlers was charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, four counts of criminal sexual assault, one count of indecent solicitation of a child, one count of sexual exploitation of a child (felony), and four counts of sexual exploitation of a child (misdemeanor). His previous charges include two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of criminal sexual assault.
If convicted on any of these charges, Ehlers could face the following sentences:
Criminal sexual assault – 4-15 years in prison
Predatory criminal sexual assault – 6-30 years in prison
Aggravated criminal sexual abuse – 3-7 years in prison
Indecent solicitation of a child – 2-5 years in prison
Sexual exploitation of a child (felony) – 1-3 years in prion
Sexual exploitation of a child (misdemeanor) – Up to a year in prison
Ehlers remains in the Madison County Jail on two separate bonds of $250,000.
