ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – More police have been added to the Wells Goodfellow neighborhood as a part of the department's "hot spot" policing.

"Hot spot" policing concentrates on putting extra police resources in a high-crime area.\

According to Chief Sam Dotson, 20 percent of the city's aggravated assaults and shootings happened in this neighborhood, which has seen eight homicides this year.

The average age of the victims is 24, with the range being between 16 and 35.

As of Thursday morning, police arrested 12 people and recovered four guns.

Previous hot spot policing efforts have been concentrated in Tower Grove South, Fountain Park and Gravois Park.
