ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A man who was attacked and stabbed in downtown St. Louis has died, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Homicide detectives said the incident occurred prior to 11 a.m. near the intersection of N. 13th and Olive streets -- near the main branch of the St. Louis Library. The victim -- identified as 41-year-old Jeronnia Graves -- was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A female acquaintance told police that she and Graves were walking together when her ex-boyfriend approached them. The woman told police she got into an argument with the suspect about their past relationship, and Graves intervened.

The suspect -- identified by police as a 47-year-old man - fled on foot and is still at large.

The victim was stabbed in the neck and the attacked fled the scene.
