BRIDGETON, Mo. – A man police took into custody Friday on suspicion of one crime confessed to a separate crime.
Steve James with the Bridgeton Police Department says a patrol officer saw the man carrying a tote bag at Fee Fee and Old St. Charles Friday afternoon and noticed he resembled a suspect wanted for stealing firearms.
James says the suspect ran from police. Two witness told officers he climbed a tree and hopped onto the roof of a vacant business on Lindbergh Boulevard.
Officers from Bridgeton, St. Ann, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol surrounded the building and closed Lindbergh Boulevard as a safety precaution. The suspect was found hiding inside a bush on the north side of the building. He was taken into custody without incident.
James says the suspect was not the same suspect the original officer believed him to be, but the man instead confessed he had just finished burglarizing a nearby home.
The man's name will be released if charges are filed.
