BEL RIDGE, Mo. (KSDK) – A St. Louis County police officer fired a shot at a suspect during a drug investigation at a home Monday afternoon.

The home is located in the 3400 block of Elmhurst, approximately five miles from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

Lt. Brian Schellman with the St. Louis County Police Department says around 2:30 p.m. detectives with the county's Bureau of Drug Enforcement were participating in an undercover drug buy. At some point and officer went to arrest the suspect, who displayed a handgun, and pointed it at an officer.

Fearing for his safety, the officer shot the suspect. The number of shots fired is unclear.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No police officers were injured.

Schellman says police are now going door-to-door in the neighborhood looking for witnesses.
