EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A fifth former elementary school student in a southwestern Illinois district is alleging he was sexually abused by the schools superintendent who later killed himself while being investigated.
The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/1oWQbQ8 ) reports that the latest former student at Freeburg's Carl L. Barton Elementary School to come forward isn't named in a federal lawsuit he filed Wednesday against the school district.
That plaintiff, now 19, alleges Robin Hawkins molested him while he was in the seventh and eighth grades in 2008 and 2009.
The school district has paid $5.6 million to settle several other lawsuits by former elementary students who claimed Hawkins molested them. As part of the settlements, the district denies any wrongdoing.
Hawkins killed himself in 2009.
A message was left Friday seeking comment from the district's superintendent.
