ST. LOUIS - Police responded to a shooting in north St. Louis early Wednesday morning.

The calls started coming in between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. A business near Hall and Adelaide streets heard at least two rounds of gunfire.

A witness told NewsChannel 5 he first heard eight to 10 shots, followed by another four or five shots. He said in the second round of gunfire, the person sounded like they may have been shooting at police.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department used a helicopter to search for the person at the center of the case. They focused the search around the Mississippi River and Carrie and Humboldt streets.

However, shortly before 5 a.m., the department called off its officers from the scene. No one has been taken into custody in connection to the case.

NewsChannel 5 will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
