GRANITE CITY, Ill. – Two men are accused of burglarizing Granite City homes over a two week period.

Kevin M. Britton, 21, of Edwardsville, is charged with eight counts of residential burglary. Sterling D. Harrell, 20, of Madison, is charged with three counts of residential burglary.

Det. Lt. Mike Nordstrom with the Granite City Police Department says the burglaries occurred between June 16 and July 2. Nordstrom says Britton and Harrell would knock on the front doors of homes to make sure nobody was home and then enter through an unlocked door or window.

Britton and Harrell are accused of stealing televisions, laptop computers, tablets, Xbox video games, and jewelry.

Shortly after the July 2 burglary a description of a vehicle driven by the suspects was broadcast to the Granite City patrol officers, and minutes later police were called to an accident at the intersection of Rock Road and Highway 3 involving a vehicle matching the suspects' vehicle.

Items reported stolen in the most recent burglary were found in the vehicle, and Britton and Harrell were taken into custody.

Britton's bail is set at $200,000. Harrell's is set at $80,000. Both are held at the Madison County Jail.
