LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. – A teen boy is accused of holding his pregnant girlfriend and her family hostage and threatening to kill them, police, and himself.
Deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office were called to a home in the 100 block of Devin Drive in Troy around 4 p.m. Thursday for a report of a domestic assault. When they arrived they found 17-year-old Charles "Trey" Reef had barricaded himself inside the home.
Reef had gone to the home because he wanted to attend a doctor visit with his pregnant girlfriend. A family member of the girlfriend's was going to drive her, but would not allow Reef to come along because she said she didn't like him.
Police say Reef threatened everyone using butcher knives, soaked himself in gasoline, and grabbed a torch, threatening to light himself and the home on fire. The girlfriend's mom and siblings escaped the home, but police say Reef held the girlfriend hostage for a short time before she was able to escape.
According to police, Reef wanted deputies to shoot him, and refused to negotiate.
Deputies worked their way into the home after noticing smoke inside the house. The deputies made their way to the laundry room, and started negotiating with Reef, who said he lit the house on fire, wanted to die, and deputies would die too if they stayed.
Police say they unlocked the laundry room door and Tasered Reef, taking him into custody. The fire was extinguished and nobody was injured.
Reef is charged with first-degree arson and first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer. He was taken to a mental health facility for evaluation.
Bond is set at $250,000 cash-only.
