ST. LOUIS – A manhunt is underway to find the person who shot and killed a grandmother in north St. Louis Wednesday night.

The shooting happened in the 1900 block of Hodiamont at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Police say 46-year-old Juliette Cleveland-Davis was walking with her 7, 5, and 4-year-old grandchildren when two suspects started shooting at a group of people.

When the group returned fire, Cleveland-Davis was shot in the chest. She was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The children were not injured.

NewsChannel 5 spoke with a neighbor, who risked her own safety to rush to the victim's grandchildren and bring them to safety.

"I was more concerned with those babies. And I'm thankful, and I was thankful to God, those babies weren't there laying next to their garndmom. But I just wanted to get them out of the way so they didn't have to continue seeing their grandmamma laying on the ground like that. Because that's something they may have to deal with for the rest of their lives," said Deviniece Creighton.
