ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis police officer was injured Thursday morning when a suspect stealing his truck tried to run him over.

A spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says around 9 a.m. an off-duty officer saw a man inside his Chevrolet Avalanche in a parking lot in the 3700 block of Washington Boulevard. The officer's department-issued weapon was in the truck. He also saw a man inside a gray Bonneville behind his truck.

When the officer approached his truck, the suspect started to drive toward the officer, attempting to hit him. The officer suffered a minor foot injury and shoulder pain. He was treated at the scene.

The Avalanche was recovered in north St. Louis near Delmar and Whittier. It's unclear if the weapon was still in the truck.

Police are searching for the suspects.
