CASEYVILLE, Ill. - A traffic stop for a minor violation turned in a class 4 felony Saturday night, the Caseyville Police Department said.
According to Officer Gerard Spratt, a police spokesman, an officer stopped James Davis, 20, at the intersection of State Route 157 and Petroff Drive in Caseyville for a minor traffic violation around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. The officer found a loaded SKS rifle in the front passenger compartment, uncased and easily accessible, Spratt said.
Davis was also found to have suspended Illinois driving privileges, Spratt said. Davis was taken into custody without incident.
Davis faces a class 4 felony charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and was booked on $10,000 bond in St. Clair County Jail.
