ST. LOUIS – Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., has been named president of Saint Louis University Friday morning.

The University's Board of Trustees elected Pestello Thursday night. He will be the 33rd president of the university.

In September, Father Lawrence Biondi retired from SLU after serving at the university for 25 years.

Pestello, who is a Cleveland native, currently serves as president of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. He worked for 25 years as a faculty member and provost at the University of Dayton, and he studied at John Carroll University.

Pestello will assume the position effective July 1. Currently, SLU administrator William Kauffmann has served as interim president.
