MIAMI (KSDK) – A south Florida mom who said she was shoplifting to feed her children got a helping hand from a police officer.
Jessica Robles was stopped as she walked out of the store pushing a cart filled with food she didn't pay for. Instead, of arresting her, Miami-Dade Police Officer Vickie Thomas bought her groceries.
"She came out and asked 'do you even have food at the house?' And I looked at her and in her face, and her no, not at all," Robles said.
So, Thomas went back inside the store.
"I made the decision to buy her some groceries because arresting her wasn't gonna solve the problem with her children being hungry," Thomas said. "So I went in and bought her some groceries."
Robles was charged with a misdemeanor and given a notice to appear in court.
