ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – When those holiday light stop working, one area group advocates recycling opposed to just throwing them away.

St. Louis Green has a holiday light recycling drive for 2013. The group began collecting lights November 16 and has already collected 10,000 pounds of old lights.

When recycled, the lights are sent back to manufacturers to create new products, according to a St. Louis Green press release.

Last year, the group collected 117,000 pounds of holiday lights, and the goal this year is to collect more than 135,000.
