SPRINGFIELD NEWS PRESS - When Lyndon Tutor walked out of his house in southwest Springfield on Tuesday morning, he wasn't sure what the dirt-like substance was that covered his vehicle, house and yard.

He walked to surrounding houses near the intersection of University Street and Eastland Avenue to ask neighbors if they knew what happened, but they weren't sure either.

Tutor later learned a malfunction at City Utilities' John Twitty Energy Center sent a cloud of ash billowing over an area to the north of the power plant. Tutor's home is about three miles away.
