ROCK HILL, Mo. (KSDK) - Rock Hill police are investigating after a couple asked sixth grade girl twice if she wanted a ride.

Cathy Vespereney, a spokesperson for the Webster Groves School District, says the girl was walking to school near Des Peres Drive and Almentor Avenue when she was approached by a dark blue car driven by a woman accompanied by a man.

The girl told the couple twice that she did not want a ride and ran home. The vehicle sped away from the scene.

"A man in a box car pulled up and said you 'Do you need a ride? Do you need a ride?' I said no and ran home," said 12-year-old Dominique Thomas.

The girl's father drove her to school and notified school authorities who called police.

The vehicle is described as a late-model purple or blue box-type car. The female is described as Caucasian and in her 30s with long blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a blue shirt and wearing glasses.

The male suspect is described as African-American, in his 30s, and last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, glasses, and a Bluetooth in his ear.

Vespereney says the Rock Hill Police Department is investigating the incident. She encourages parents to talk to their children about not talking to strangers and to report anything they feel is unsafe.

"I hope all the kids are safe that's in the neighborhood and that they don't hope in the cars with strangers and that this doesn't happen again," said Thomas.
