ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) - A two-alarm fire at a north St. Louis County apartment complex displaced a dozen people.

Flames began spreading shortly after 4 p.m. in the 3500 block of Sugar Crest Drive, according to Florissant Valley Fire Department Deputy Chief Rick Ruhmann. The fire started on the outside of the building on the bottom deck and traveled up three floors. Three units sustained extensive fire damage and two others had smoke and water damage. The five units were declared uninhabitable.

No one was in the building when the fire started. A cause has not been determined, but Ruhmann said the St. Louis County Police Department has been called in to investigate reports of a suspicious person in the area just before the fire.
