EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) – The mayor of East St. Louis says the city has reached a fiscal milestone hat should help it get out of state oversight.

The city repaid more than $21 million in state bonds. Those were issued 19 years ago as a way to bail the city out of a financial hole.

Mayor Alvin Parks says now that the debts are paid, they'll have more money for police, firefighters, and infrastructure.
