ST. LOUIS – Mayor Francis Slay has appointed an alderman to serve as the director of St. Louis' Community Development Administration.

Alderman Fred Wessels will take over Jan. 1, 2014 when current Director Jill Claybour retires.

Wessels represented the 13th Ward for 28 years. He also serves as chairman of the Housing, Urban Development and Zoning Committee, member of the Personnel Committee, member of the Health and Human Services Committee, and member of Board of Trustees of the St. Louis Development Corporation.

Wessels has also spent 29 years with the St. Louis Peregrine Society, most recently serving as executive director. The Peregrine Society provides services and supplies to cancer patients in the city and county.
