ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – An official in St. Charles County is warning residents to beware of private offers to provide public records copies.

Barbara J. Hall, St. Charles County Recorder of Deeds, says some property owners have received letters from companies offering certified copies of their deed for $83. The companies acquire the copies from the recorder's office for a $2, plus $1 for each additional page and $1 for certification, and then pass the deed along to the homeowner, charging them substantially more.

Hall says homeowners can contact the Recorder of Deeds office directly to purchase a certified copy for their records.

The St. Charles County Recorder of Deeds Office is located at the St. Charles County Administration Building, 201 N. Second Street, Suite 338, St. Charles, Mo. Residents can also call the officer at 636-949-7509.
