ST. LOUIS – Police have identified a woman killed Thursday morning in the Central West End.

Leah K. Freeman, a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, says 63-year-old Nancy Benson was walking along Lindell shortly before 7 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.

Freeman says Benson was crossing the street not at a crosswalk when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle stopped to check on her condition. The driver told police that due to inclement weather and Benson's dark clothing caused him to not see her before he hit her.

Benson was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. She died around 10 a.m.

There's no word if the driver will face any charges.
