ST. LOUIS – A three-story brick warehouse fire near downtown St. Louis is now at four-alarms.
The fire started at the warehouse at 2nd and Cedar streets near downtown St. Louis late Monday morning.
The warehouse is used for storage and is owned by Servco Equipment Company, a subsidiary of Gates Company, which is headquartered in St. Louis on Jamieson Ave.
Servco builds commercial and institutional foodservice facilities.
The father Gregory Gates, the owner of Gates Company, is at the scene with his son. He told NewsChannel 5's Grant Bissell the building, which was built in the 1800s, had been in the family since the 1940s and that is survived a fire in the 1960s.
He believes the fire started on the first floor where furniture was stored. The building appears to be a total loss.
