Jefferson City - The bodies of 6-year-old Markell Beasley and 40-year-old Demetrius Beasley were found late on December 24, 2013.

On December 22, 2013, Jefferson City Police received information that a child, Markell Beasley, was allowed by his mother to travel to St. Louis to be with his father for a holiday party. She later found that there was no holiday party, and that the father did not intend to bring the child back. Police then issued an endangered person alert and began investigating possible locations or other persons who may have known the whereabouts of Markell. Initially, it was confirmed that Markell was with the father, Demetrius Beasley, but those that saw them together no longer knew where they were. Attempts were made to try and locate both persons, and Jefferson City Police Detectives were called to assist with the case.

Jefferson City Police Detectives began to work with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies throughout the state in an attempt to locate Demetrius and Markell Beasley. Numerous leads were followed and an Amber Alert was issued for Markell.

During the evening of December 24, 2013, information was received that the suspect and victim were in Cape Girardeau, and shortly after learning this information, law enforcement officials responded to a shots fired call at a location within their jurisdiction. Initial information received is that both Demetrius and Markell Beasley are deceased. That investigation is still underway as to the manner and cause of death.

Jefferson City Police Detectives are still investigating the case, and no other information is available at this time. Further information may be available after 8:00 a.m. on December 26th.
